The first step you should take is to measure from the floor to the top of your counter and also from the floor to the underside of the counter. For the most comfort, you’ll want your stool height to leave 9 to 11 inches of space between the top of the stool’s seat and the underside of your counter or bar. The seat height of a counter stool is typically 24 inches from the floor and these stools are most commonly paired with kitchen counters and kitchen islands. If you have a pub height table or bar, you’ll need to pick out bar height stools with a seat that typically measures 30 inches from the floor. And don’t forget to consider the folks in your life (young and old) with shorter legs!
