Do I Need a Box Spring?
You found the perfect mattress. Do you really need a new foundation? Yes – and for three important reasons! First, your new mattress has great features that are going to help you get amazing sleep and to reap the rewards of the amazing features your mattress offers, it needs the proper support that a foundation provides. Second, a foundation provides the height necessary so that your mattress does not sit below your headboard. Finally, but certainly not least, without proper support, your new mattress warranty is void.
What Do You Put Under a Mattress for Support?
At RC Willey, you’ll find the mattress foundations you need to support your mattress. We have traditional standard height (9”) and low profile (5”) foundations as well as bunkie boards in every size if you like the look of a super low profile bed. Keep in mind that a platform bed or a bunk bed with slats are supportive as long as there isn’t more than 2” between the slats. The key is continuous support across the entire mattress.
Box Spring vs Foundation – Does a Box Spring Have Springs?
With the advanced mattress technology of today, a box spring is no longer an actual box with springs inside. To provide the support your mattress needs it is more about weight distribution and support which makes springs no longer necessary. The difference between a box spring and the mattress foundations made today is that a foundation no longer contains springs but is a wood and or metal frame with foam and fabric to provide great support for your mattress.
