Today’s technology has completely changed the mattress buying experience. Mattresses can now be made from superior, eco-friendly materials that are not only better for the environment but also offer enhanced comfort and longevity. These mattresses are then compressed and rolled or folded into a compact, manageable box. This process doesn't compromise the quality or durability of the mattress but instead facilitates a more efficient delivery and setup process. When the mattress arrives at its new home, it's simply a matter of unboxing and allowing it to regain its original shape, which often happens within hours.

Your Mattress in a Box Questions

What does Mattress in a Box mean?

The term “Mattress in a box” or “bed in a box” refers to today’s modern approach to mattress manufacturing and delivery. Traditionally, mattresses were sold in brick-and-mortar stores, requiring you to navigate crowded showrooms, make an on-the-spot decision, and then coordinate the often-cumbersome process of getting a large, unwieldy mattress to your home. This could mean renting a larger vehicle, wrangling the mattress up stairwells, or waiting for a delivery slot that fits both your and the store's busy schedules.

How do I set up a mattress-in-a-box?

Mattresses in a box have gained substantial popularity primarily due to the online shopping revolution. The nature of the product—compact, easily shippable, and designed for doorstep delivery—makes it a perfect fit for e-commerce platforms. Consequently, most of these mattresses are sold online, allowing customers to select, purchase, and receive the product without ever leaving their homes.

At stores like RC Willey, you can test out the mattress in person, getting a firsthand feel for its comfort and quality. Once satisfied, you can purchase directly in-store or go home and order it online at a time that suits you best. In fact, RC Willey offers an exclusive mattress in a box line, Blue Burrito. Try it out, we think it's pretty awesome.

Can I return a mattress in a box if I don’t like it?

Yes! RC Willey offers a 100-Day Mattress Comfort Guarantee. All you have to do is sleep on your new mattress for at least 30 days. If you’re not sleeping like a baby, you can exchange it for a new one. Keep in mind that you have 100 days from the original delivery date to make your selection and if you choose a mattress of greater value, you will be charged the difference.

How long does it take for a mattress in a box to fully expand?

Typically, a mattress in a box takes between 24 to 72 hours to fully expand once removed from the packaging. Most mattresses will have expanded significantly within the first few hours, and many can be slept on the same night they're unboxed.

If you can't wait to lay on your new "mattress in a box," here are a few tips to speed up the expansion process:

  • Increase Room Temperature: A warm room will aid the expansion process. If possible, keep the room at a slightly warmer temperature (around 72°F).
  • Avoid Weight: Although tempting to lie down on the mattress, it's generally a good idea to avoid putting any significant weight on it for the first few hours.
  • Aerate: Allow the mattress to breathe. Good air circulation can help the foam cells expand more quickly. Turn on a fan or open a window to facilitate airflow.
