6 Simple Ways to Spice Up Your Kitchen for Cheap!

Posted by Andie on November 11, 2009

Does your kitchen need an update, but you don't have the time or money to do a complete makeover?  With these simple, inexpensive, do-it yourself suggestions, you can transform your dull, lifeless kitchen into your new favorite room in the house!

1. A little new hardware goes a long way...

 - Invest in new kitchen cabinet hardware.  Despite what you might think, you don't have to pay an arm and a leg for it.  This can be a low-cost way to liven things up a whole lot! You don't have to totally re-do your kitchen cabinets to give your kitchen a face lift, but with new hardware you might even fool people into thinking you did!

2. Color, Color, Color!!

- If new hardware alone isn't going to do the trick of beautifying those cabinets, you might consider painting them.  Soft cream, white and black are always classic choices, but if you want more flavor you could go for a butter yellow or sage green.  While you have your paintbrush out, pick a new color for the walls- it will do wonders in giving your kitchen new life!

 3. Cover those floors!

- Replacing your old shabby, worn-out kitchen rugs is essential.  Throw a new rug under your kitchen table or get smaller rugs to put next to the sink and the fridge, and you've basically got yourself a brand new, fresh kitchen.

4. It's the little things that count....

 - Still need more to give your kitchen a suitable makeover?  You might want to contemplate switching up the little things- like the kitchen faucet, door handles, and light fixtures.  You can find these items at an affordable price, and you'll be amazed at the difference.

 5. Accessorize!

 - Start adding new and fun accessories to give your kitchen more personality.  Be creative!  There are no rules here...  Add clocks, mirrors, and picture frames to the walls, and get some hanging plants or herb pots to bring greenery to the room.  Consider slip covers for your chairs, and bright table cloths for a splash of color and charm.

6. Turn on the oven!

- One of the easiest ways to spice things up is to start baking. It doesn't matter if it's home-made chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin bread, or a frozen lasagna... delicious smells can do wonders for a room.  Hate baking? Let a pot of potpourri simmer on the stove or try burning seasonal candles. Your kitchen will be warmer, cozier, and friendlier... don't be surprised if it becomes the new hot spot in your home!
