Happy New Year's Eve! I thought it would be fun to take you on a little virtual holiday tour today to say goodbye to 2017! My family and I live in Richmond, Virginia, and a little known fact about our city is that it's known for taking outdoor Christmas lighting to a whole new level! Yes, every year, one of the most anticipated holiday events is "The Tacky Lights Tour". The Richmond Times-Dispatch publishes a list of the top 65 houses in the area that take the cake as far as holiday lights go. The city goes wild for it! People rent limo's to drive from house to house, and it's basically a huge party until after the new year! It's become a fun family tradition for us to drive around, rank the Christmas light displays ourselves, and get hot cocoa afterwards.
While pictures don't even begin to do it justice, I thought I'd share a few. One of my favorite houses on Asbury Court, owned by the Phifer family, won $50,000 this year on ABC's 'Great Christmas Light Fight'. A mother and son have houses next door to each other, and they've been going all out now for 40 years each Christmas! It's truly incredible! Rose Phifer, the mother, died this past spring, and so it was sweet to see the house lit once again in her honor. Here are some photos I took.....
While pictures can't really begin to do it justice, don't you agree it's pretty incredible??
Here are a few other favorites from the tour this year....
Hope you're enjoying this post-Christmas holiday week!
