Popcorn Poppers for Homeless Youth
The Homeless Youth Resource Center is a drop in center during the day for homeless street youth in Salt Lake City. Here, youth from ages 15-22 experience a safe haven from the difficult reality of living on the streets. The center serves two hot meals a day, provides clients the chance to receive basic need items, take showers and do laundry, teaches life skill classes, and gives youth a safe, trusting place where they can cultivate positive relationships with other youth while escaping the natural elements. The center's ultimate goal is to help youth in the process of transitioning from homelessness to self sufficiency.
Thanks to a tip from one of our contest winners, RC Willey was able to donate two large theater style popcorn makers to the center this holiday season!
This amazing program is run by Volunteers of America. Last year alone, they served over 800 homeless youth in Salt Lake. In addition to food and clothing donations, the center is trying to get additional funding, so that eventually they can serve as an overnight shelter.
