Trend Alert: Layered Rugs on the Front Porch
While doormats traditionally serve a very functional purpose, it doesn't mean they can't be stylish at the same time! One of the hottest design trends when it comes to front porches right now is layering two rugs on top of each other. It looks so cute, and it's a really simple way to add some personality to your porch! Just start on the bottom with a flat cotton weave (can be indoor or outdoor), and then add a smaller, heartier Natural coir fiber or sissal rug on top, and BOOM- you're done! The great part is that you can make it work for any season of the year! Check out the great examples below for some inspiration.....

Symmetrical Interiors
Symmetrical balance: when two sides of a central point are mirror images of each other. While we all seek balance in our lives when it comes to work, relationships, fun, etc, you're either into symmetry when it comes to interiors, or you're not. Read on to see which camp you belong in!
Symmetrical balance has been around since the beginning of time, and is typically found in formal, refined, traditional design. You'll also find symmetrical design elements in a lot of bathrooms, and bedrooms. If you are drawn to symmetrical interiors, you no doubt appreciate the feelings of calm, safety, and comfort they stir up. Rooms that are balanced symmetrically don't leave you guessing or wondering what is coming, and there is some security in that!
The problem with symmetrical interiors though, is that they are super predictable, which can be a little boring for some of us. The good news, is that now days, really great symmetrical composition will always contain an element or two of asymmetry, just to keep the eye happy. Almost everything in the room should be placed symmetrically, with one or two 'wild cards' thrown in there to disrupt the perfect balance. Below are some fun examples- can you find the items that upset the symmetrical balance?

Small Powder Rooms
Bigger is not always better-- especially when it comes to powder rooms! In fact, I think the smaller the powder room, the more of an opportunity to make a huge impact! If you are wondering how to add some flavor to a small and boring powder room in your home, here are 4 things you can do to take it from drab to fab!
1. Install a Little Vessel Sink
If you don't have room for a big, bulky vanity, a simple and small vessel sink is a great way to go! They are clean, don't take up a lot of space, and cute! Also, I am loving the shiplap in the photo below, with a little wood countertop and vessel sink- perfect combo!

2. Utilize Space for Storage
Just because you don't have room for big cupboards, doesn't mean you can't store stuff! This photo of shelves behind the toilet is the perfect example of making every inch count! It might take a little thinking outside the box, but you can do it!
3. When in doubt, WALLPAPER!!!!!
YES, YES, YES!!!!! I love bold wallpaper, and there is no room in the entire home that it looks better in than a small powder room! If you think a room is too small to pull off bold wallpaper, you are wrong! It will make the room feel bigger and better. In my opinion, no pattern is off limits!

4. Paint the Vanity
If wallpaper isn't your thing, another great option is to simply throw a fun coat of paint on your vanity! A bright colored vanity will ALWAYS win over a plain white, black, or wood grain in a small powder room. This will give your room a heck of a lot more personality!
And there you have it! Four simple ways to transform your powder room!

My kids go back to school in two weeks, and I'm in denial! Read on for the most incredible & easy to make fresh peach ice cream that will most likely change your life.....
Here's the thing- I LOVE homemade ice cream, but I've always used the old fashioned ice cream maker with the ice and salt. You know what I'm talking about? Sure, it's charming and fun, but it always turns into a watery salty mess and a ton of work! While I was visiting my sister a few weeks ago, she introduced me to this ice cream maker- boy is it a game changer! We whipped up a batch of delicious peach ice cream in no time, and I'm still dreaming about it. You've got to try it!
Ingredients: Yield: 1 Quart
1 cup peaches, peeled
2/3 cup sugar

Trend Alert: No Upper Kitchen Cabinets!
If you find yourself keeping up with the latest interior design trends, you've no doubt noticed there is a major kitchen movement that seems to be sweeping the design world with full force: kitchens with NO UPPER CABINETS!!! Say what??? That's right, folks. No upper cabinets! Are you shaken to the very core?? This is basically taking the constant truth you we knew and understood about kitchen design and tossing it on it's head!
So, is this revolutionary? Or completely ridiculous?? If your jaw is still on the floor and you are trying to take it all in, stick with me. People are really doing this! They are opting for open shelving, windows, or simply backsplash or a blank wall where upper kitchen cabinets would have sat. Thoughts? Here are a few pro's and cons that I can see to no upper cabinets in a kitchen:
PRO'S:
- Very clean, minimalistic, sleek, and modern looking.
- Forces you to get rid of all your stuff? Seriously though, you'd have to only hold on to the basics.
- Saves you $$ on cabinets.
CONS:
- Goodbye stuff! Talk about no kitchen storage!!
- Where are you supposed to hide your messes? Open shelving = everything is always on display!
- Open shelving means more dust.
- Costs you more $$ on windows, tile backsplash or slab of stone.
- It's SUPER trendy. How long can this kind of thing last? In my opinion, your kitchen will become outdated REAL fast.

In conclusion. I have to admit that these kitchens are nothing short of beautiful. They really are. Right? BUT, for me, the cons of basically no storage, being too trendy, having too much open shelving, etc is enough for me to stay far away when it comes to my own kitchen. What do you think? Love it? Hate it? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

How To Get Dried Crayon Stains Out of Clothes
The other day I opened up my dryer to take out a load of freshly dried laundry, and to my horror, almost every single item of clothing was covered in dark red splotches. I was shocked, and mad, and confused. And I wanted to cry. Turns out, one of my children left a red crayon in their pocket, and somehow it made it's way through the wash cycle, and stuck around to really show it's true colors (pun intended) in the dryer. Not my best day.
I immediately threw the load in the washer again, hoping it was recent enough that the crayon stains would come out, but sadly, it didn't work. It's never that easy, right? I almost threw out the entire load of clothes because I didn't think there was any hope of saving them, but something inside me just couldn't do it. They've been sitting in a laundry basket for a good month two months now, and I'm finally getting around to working on getting the stains out. Here are a couple of different methods I've found that I'll be trying:
METHOD 1:
Removing melted crayon from clothes (according to my mommystyle.com)
- Fill a few large pots with water, put them on your stove top and heat to boiling.
- Put the clothes in the washer, and set the water to hot. You want it to be super hot, so that’s where the boiling water comes into play. Add those to the washing machine now.
- Add laundry detergent. Whatever kind you normally use, it doesn’t matter if it’s powder or liquid.
- Add 1/2 cup vinegar and 5 Tablespoons of dish soap (Dawn works great).
- Soak clothes for 15 minutes.
- Run the washer.
METHOD 2:

METHOD 3:
I'm hoping that one of these three methods will do the trick for me!

Kitchen Design Trends 2018 Part 2
As it turns out, one blog post just wasn't enough to cover all of the amazing/creative/and maybe a little crazy kitchen design trends we are seeing this year! So without further ado, here are 6 more of the most up and coming kitchen trends of 2018...
1. Concrete Countertops
This isn't your typical countertop surface! I'm not sure if Chip and Joanna Gaines are part of the reason concrete countertops are coming in hot (below is a photo from their own farmhouse kitchen), but it looks like it has some staying power. While they do require some maintenance over time, when sealed correctly they are water, heat and and stain resistant. I kind of like the look, what about you?

2. Kitchen Booths & Banquettes
You might have thought these were a thing of the past, but they are baaaaaaack! And they are better than ever! Many designers are incorporating awesome kitchen booths in the middle of a large kitchen- the perfect place for a quick breakfast or snack! I think they add a lot of character!
3. Flat Front Cabinetry
If modern is your thing, you will love flat front cabinetry. It's starting to emerge, and it's sleek, simple, and clean. No fuss.
4. Shaker Style Cabinets
If flat front cabinets make you cringe, never fear! Shaker Style Cabinets are still going strong! They are more popular than ever, and I'm going to be real surprised if they go anywhere soon.
5. Square tiles
Fun, colorful tile is in the spotlight right now! Specifically, square tiles! I'll always appreciate a good, clean, white subway tile... but the square shape in the photos below really amps up the designs in my opinion!
6. Brass and Mixed Metals
Brass is in like never before! Brass hardware, brass pendents, brass everything when it comes to the kitchen! If you want to update your look, be sure to opt for a satin or antique brass finish- stay away from lacquered brass as it will take you straight back to the 1980's!
