How to Hang Large Art

Posted by Alyssa on August 6, 2019

hang art

Hanging art can be intimidating, especially if it’s an especially large work of art. What do you use to anchor it to the wall? How do you center it correctly on the wall? How do you get the frame to be level and not crooked? If you’ve got a large piece of art just leaning against the wall because you’re secretly afraid to hang it, have no fear! We’re here to show you how to hang large art.

How to Hang Large Art

art

via Decoomo

First, this will be much easier if you have two people. Have one person hold the piece of art up to the wall where you want it. Mark where you want it with a light pencil mark, making sure you have centered it correctly on the wall.

Measure where the hanging hardware is on the back of your art. If there are two pieces of hanging hardware you’ll need to measure how far apart they are as well as the distance from the top of the frame to the hardware. If your art has a wire, make sure you pull it tight to get a correct measurement.

Using your initial pencil mark of where you want your painting to go and the measurements you’ve taken, tap in the hardware you'll be using to hang the art. Depending on the weight of the art piece you’re using you may need to use different anchors for safety.

Hang your artwork! If needed, use a level to make sure your art is perfectly straight.

How to Deadhead Plants

Deadheading, or removing the dead or spent blooms, helps your plant look better and grow stronger. It's important to remove the dead flowers so your plant has the energy to produce more blooms. With just your fingers or some snips, you can easily deadhead your plants.

Traeger Recipes: Ribs

Posted by Alyssa on July 21, 2019

ribs

Have you tried making ribs on your Traeger grill? They are delicious! Granted, we have a running joke at our house that anything you put on the Traeger is delicious. Seriously, you can’t go wrong. For your next BBQ, why not throw some ribs on the grill? Recipe below.

Traeger Recipes: 3-2-1 BBQ Baby Back Ribs

INGREDIENTS

2 RACKS BABY BACK PORK RIBS

1/3 CUP YELLOW MUSTARD

1/2 CUP, DIVIDED APPLE JUICE

1 TBSP WORCESTERSHIRE SAUCE

1/2 CUP DARK BROWN SUGAR

1 CUP TRAEGER 'QUE SAUCE

PREPARATION

If your butcher has not already done so, remove the thin silverskin membrane from the bone-side of the ribs by working the tip of a butter knife or a screwdriver underneath the membrane over a middle bone. Use paper towels to get a firm grip, then tear the membrane off.

In a small bowl, combine the mustard, 1/4 cup of apple juice (reserve the rest), and the Worcestershire sauce. Spread the mixture thinly on both sides of the ribs and season with Traeger Pork & Poultry rub.

When ready to cook, set temperature to 180℉ and preheat, lid closed for 15 minutes.

Smoke the ribs, meat-side up for 3 hours. Transfer the ribs to a rimmed baking sheet and increase the grill temperature to 225℉.

Tear off four long sheets of heavy-duty aluminum foil. Top with a rack of ribs and pull up the sides to keep the liquid enclosed.

Sprinkle half the brown sugar on the rack, then top with half the honey and half of the remaining apple juice. Use a bit more apple juice if you want more tender ribs.

Lay another piece of foil on top and tightly crimp the edges so there is no leakage. Repeat with the remaining rack of ribs.

Return the foiled ribs to the grill and cook for an additional two hours.

Carefully remove the foil from the ribs and brush the ribs on both sides with Traeger 'Que Sauce. Discard the foil.

Arrange the ribs directly on the grill grate and continue to grill until the sauce tightens, 30 minutes to 60 minutes more.

Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy!

*Cook times will vary depending on set and ambient temperatures.

Fun Playhouse Ideas

Posted by Alyssa on July 19, 2019

play house

How fun is a playhouse? I’ve always wanted a playhouse in my backyard, and we hit the jackpot. Our neighbor was getting rid of their old, cottage playhouse and, after sawing it apart, lugging it over our fence, rebuilding it, and painting it, we now have one. I’ve been working on finishing the inside and there are so many ideas online on how to decorate a playhouse. If you’ve got an old shed you aren’t using, a playhouse that’s never played in anymore, or are on the search for a new playhouse, these ideas are for you!

Interior Design Mistakes

Posted by Alyssa on July 16, 2019

interior design

It’s so easy to fall into these common interior design mistakes. While doing some research for this post I ended up doing a quick check of some of the rooms in my house and decided that some changes needed to be made. Have you fallen victim to some of these common mistakes?

Interior Design Mistakes

interior design

via Mad About the House

  1. Decorating with things that are the same size. If everything in your room is the same height, you’re going to have a pretty boring space. Instead, choose furniture and accessories that vary in height, shape, and texture.
  2. Choosing a rug that is too small. If you aren’t sure what size to get, check out our guide on what rug size you need to help get you started!
  3. Not hanging art or hanging art incorrectly. Picking the wrong size of art or hanging it too high will not help out your room. Instead, follow this guide on how to hang art correctly.
  4. Too much clutter. Whether it’s having too much furniture put into one room or it’s a shelf overflowing with accessories, less is more. If you don’t have a place in your room where your eye can rest, your room will not be a relaxing place to spend time.
  5. Ignoring the importance of good lighting. If you only have your overhead light, your room will feel harsh and overbright. Layer your lighting with a variety of lamps to help create an inviting mood.

Room Dividers for Large Rooms

Posted by Alyssa on July 12, 2019

living room

If the large room in your home feels overly intimidating to decorate or your couch seems tiny in comparison, it may be time to divide up your space. There are lots of ways to layout a large room, but if you’re looking for a way to create defined spaces you may want to bring in a room divider. Screens, bookshelves, and even sectionals can help break up a large room and make it feel more intimate and manageable. Here are some different dividers you may want to consider using.

Keep your space open while still breaking up your space by using a bookshelf. If you want a large divider, this bookcase would be perfect. For less of an impact and a smaller space, this shelf would be great.
